Rescue Me ID: 15-05-02-00157Heidi (female)

Schnauzer    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current, Deaf, Fearful/Anxious

Heidi is about 14 1/2 years old. She was adopted in March 2002 after she had been abandoned. At that time the veterinarian told them she was about 1 1/2. Heidi had three main people in her world. One passed away on June 26, 2015 after an illness. Another passed away suddenly on August 16, 2015. The person closest to her had to move into a residential care facility because of Alzheimer's in January. She has been being cared for by someone since that time but they can't keep her permanently and must move far away soon because of work. Heidi is very loyal and very gentle with people she knows well but is initially frightened of strangers, ... (Read More)who she barks at, making her a very good watch dog even at 14 1/2. She has not been socialized to being around other dogs or children. She enjoys being outside and playing, even in the snow, but is also happy relaxing quietly in proximity to her person. She sleeps through the night and gets excited when she sees her person in the morning and it's time to start their day. She has major hearing problems but is otherwise very healthy. She had a physical including blood work about two weeks ago. All her shots are up to date. One of her lower front teeth is protruding slightly and may come out soon. She is in control of all her processes and waits for her person to get home from work to let her outside or go outside with her. Accidents are very infrequent. Sometimes she needs encouragement to come back in. Heidi prefers chicken to beef or other dog food varieties. Her favorites are Pedigree chicken choice cuts or Whole Paws chicken variety. (Less)
