Animal ID: 15-141Max (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats

Updated bio 10-4-15 Max is our 6.5-year-old Yorkie (probably Schnorkie) mix. Max is 13 pounds. He is is being fostered in Dunedin, FL. Max was picked up from the animal shelter on September 30th after being in the shelter (and cage) for almost three months. We were told that Max has dry eye and needs eye drops twice a day. It was very obvious when Max's rescuer and UYR angel walked into the shelter Max desperately needed our help. His eyes were completely shut and crusty. He obviously couldn't see. He literally collapsed in the car from the exhaustion of being in that facility and feeling of knowing he was rescued. On Thursday ... (Read More)Max's foster mom took Max to the vet. After his eye exam, the vet believes he not only has KCS (dry eye), but he also has the condition where his eyelids (top and bottom) grow inward. His tear production in his right eye is zero, and the left eye wasn't much more. He also has what appears to be an ulcer in his left eye. A new regimen of topical antibiotic eye drops, Refresh Liquigel and Optimmune were started in both eyes. All total, he gets eye treatments 5 times during the day. Max will be returning to the vet October 10th or 11th to re-evaluate his eyes (re-test) to see if we are on the right track with the above care plan. The vet highly suggested Max see an eye specialist, especially one who can evaluate him for surgery. Max also has what appears to be a skin rash on both of his inner thighs, which he is on oral antibiotics for. All in all Max is a good-natured dog, but he does sometimes let it be known if he's not happy with one of the others. His size needs to be taken into consideration for Max's forever home. Because of the need for eye treatments, Max really needs to be adopted by someone who can treat him throughout the day. By mid-day his eyes are completely closed until he gets his liquid tears, and then again later in the evening. Hopefully we can get eye surgery for him and find him a wonderful forever home with a family that can take care of him. Max's care will cost a lot of money, especially if he needs eye surgery. Please consider making a donation to Max's care. He needs our help desperately and United Yorkie Rescue needs your help to do this for Max Initial Bio 9/30/15 Max is a sweet 6.5 year old, 13 lb. Yorkie mix being fostered in Dunedin, FL. Hello everybody, my name is Max, and do I have a story to tell you!! I don't know why my family didn't want me anymore, but they left me at the shelter. Sadly, I was there for three whole months! But today I knew my life was changing for the better when my new foster mommy took me out of my cage and told me, 'Welcome to your new life, little man!' I was so exhausted from all those barking dogs and noisy cats that when I got in the car I went right to sleep. My foster mom is still learning everything about me, but she knows (because I showed her) that I know how to walk on a leash, and I know to go potty outside, I'm good with other dogs, and so far I've left the cat alone. Stay tuned for more on me as I keep showing my foster mom and dad all there is to know about me. Now, a word from my foster mom%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD|Max is a sweet, good-natured Yorkie mix (possibly a Schnorkie - part Schnauzer part Yorkie). He spent way too much time in a cage before United Yorkie Rescue stepped in and rescued him. He is very happy to be out of his cage and in a home where he lives with his other foster brothers and sisters. He has an eye condition called 'dry eye,' and is required to have his eyes washed out with an eye solution, then he gets eye ointment, then eye drops twice a day. Because of his eye condition, he doesn't seem to see very well, but we're still evaluating him on everything. The cost of eye drops is estimated to be between $10 and $30 a month, but after his evaluation at the vet we will know more about that. We do know he loves to snuggle up on the sofa with his people. He just loves getting the attention he so desperately deserves. We'll have an more info and pictures coming on Max real soon, so keep checking back! (Less)

Animal ID: 15-110Billy (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Updated Bio 9/7/15. Billy is an amazing, sweet boy. He is probably about 4 1/2 years old. He now weighs 10.6 pounds. Billy Boy is being fostered in Leesburg, FL. It's almost all good news for Billy. He has gained a whole pound and he is healing perfectly. The surgeon removed his stitches and gave him a great report. Everything is healing as it should. Everyone at the surgical clinic commented on how much better he looked. His bones are not sticking out so much and he is about as happy a boy as can be. Another pound or two and he will be perfect. For Billy the not so good news is still 4 more weeks of crate restriction. After that he has ... (Read More)two more weeks where he can come out of the crate for a little while as long as he does no running or jumping. Finally on October 15th the 8th week post surgery he is scheduled for his, hopefully, final vet visit. He will have X-rays taken of the repair and if all is good he will be released. He will, at last, be able to stretch those long legs of his and be ready to go to his forever home. Billy longs to run and jump and play with his foster brother and sister. He loves to sit on his foster mom and dad's lap as long as no other dogs are around. Then he just wants to go play with them, but he can't, not yet anyway. He also loves to give kisses. Billy will walk nicely on the leash unless another dog is out with him and then he wants to play, so he usually goes out with his foster mom or dad without the other dogs around. He knows he lives in his crate and sadly walks into it. Foster Mom and Dad are as anxious as Billy for the day he does not have to be crated all the time and can join the group. He's a great eater and sleeper and does great in the car. Billy would be a wonderful dog for a family that will give him lots of love and attention and tons of playtime. He wants to be around other dogs and would love a fenced yard to run around in or be taken to the dog park to have lots of playtime and running around time with other dogs and maybe even some older kids. Once again Billy wants to thank everyone who donated to his surgery and sent him well wishes. Without all of you this wonderful dog would not have made it. As always United Yorkie Rescue is so appreciative for all our donors. With your continued help we can save so many other Billy's and give them that second chance at a great life. (Less)

Fiona is a really mild mannered loving dog. My mother has owned her for about 8 years. Fiona is very friendly and great with people, kids and other pets. She is absolutely harmless. She is extremely intelligent. She's house trained and has lived in the home since day one. My mother is getting older and she's unable to care for Fiona. She deserves a good loving home. I do not want to take her to the pound because I'm not sure if they put dogs to sleep for any reason. Fiona is not a sickly dog and she deserves to live out the rest of her life.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Schnauzer in Florida
Schnauzer Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Schnauzer is a thickly bearded, medium sized, Terrier type dog. Schnauzers are proud, vivacious animals. Schnauzers are protective toward their people and want to be the boss. It is important to thoroughly socialize and train a Schnauzer when it is a puppy. Schnauzers do fine with older kids. A Schnauzer needs lots and lots of exercise and a daily walk but can live in an apartment if its exercise needs are met.
