MEET APRIL (Adoption Pending) -- SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY -- In need of a breath of fresh air? Ready for change, growth and happiness? Perhaps sweet April is the missing piece of your future. Our springtime babe is ready to brighten your life. She looks like a wire haired dachshund perhaps mixed with mini schnauzer. April is only 2-ish and weighs 17 pounds. She has a cute scruffy face and a dappled grey, black and brown coat adorning her long, low bod. Once alone and trying to fend for herself, April found her way to one of our foster homes and life was immediately better. Now the only thing missing in her world is YOU. Our laughing girl ... (Read More)April enjoys the company of other dogs and hopes to have a fun playmate or two in her forever home. She's pretty mellow for one so young and rarely barks unless to provide an alert for someone at the door. April will entertain herself playing gently with her stuffed toys, however car rides make her uneasy so she prefers to stay in shape and walk :) She loves being outdoors and would be a wonderful companion for some evening strolls this autumn. April is totally housebroken as well as crate trained. She's also vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. She's good to go, so reach out and set a date to meet her! *** UPDATE 12/11/14: April has an adoption pending and is now in a Foster-To-Adopt (FTA) period with a potential adopter. During this period, the adopter and dog have a chance to try each other out and make sure this is a perfect match. If things don't work out, the dog will return to the rescue and be able to meet with other adopters. Otherwise, the adopter can finalize the adoption at the end of the FTA period or any time during, at which time our dog listing will be removed. Meanwhile, we are still accepting applications and encourage you to contact us as soon as possible if you are interested in giving this dog a loving home. --- To view additional photos and pup-dates for April, please visit her on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.789691471055356.1073741895.294289027262272&type=3 (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Scruff-a-luff' Schnauzer Mix female/spayed, 7 yrs old, 21 lbs Scruff-a-luff was rescued by one of our volunteers from a local San Diego shelter where she wasn't doing very well. She was shy with the staff and preferred to stay in her crate most of the day. We think she is a 6-8 year old, schnauzer/terrier mix who is approximately 30-35 pounds. Since moving in with her foster family, she has really come out of her shell. She loves to play in her yard with her foster brothers and sisters. She runs excitedly to the door the moment the leash and harness comes out. Scruff loves her walks almost as much as she loves cuddling and car ... (Read More)rides. When she's not busy exploring her yard or riding shot gun, you can find her resting at your feet and protecting her family. Her foster mommy thinks she is the smartest dog she has ever met! She squeezed through the fence in her back yard and was last seen several miles from her brand new foster home and managed to come back that very same night on her own, after only having spent one night in her new home with no walks...a true genius! Her foster mommy jokes and says that her Scruff is smarter than she is! She is perfect off leash, has never had an accident in the house and knows all of the basic doggy commands (sit, lay down, heal and high five). Scruff is still a little scared of strangers and requires some time before she will fully trust you. She will shrink back and flinch if you come at her too fast. She will do best in a home with adults or older children who are respectful of her abused past. Scruff will do beautifully as an only dog or as a companion to an existing dog (not a thunder stealer) If you are willing to open your home and your heart, you will get an extremely intelligent and loyal companion for life in Scruff! Give her l second chance and you will not regret it! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Schnauzer in California
Schnauzer Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Schnauzer is a thickly bearded, medium sized, Terrier type dog. Schnauzers are proud, vivacious animals. Schnauzers are protective toward their people and want to be the boss. It is important to thoroughly socialize and train a Schnauzer when it is a puppy. Schnauzers do fine with older kids. A Schnauzer needs lots and lots of exercise and a daily walk but can live in an apartment if its exercise needs are met.
